Georgia DNR holds public meetings about fishing/hunting license process
By Pamela A. Keene

In response to concern by the public and retailers, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources has amended its policy for fishing and hunting license purchases to include retailers.

The DNR will also hold a series of public meetings to solicit comments from sportsmen and other citizens about the changes during August. During these meetings, division personnel will present information about the license system changes and improvements and sportsmen and women will have an opportunity to share their concerns on any additional licensing concerns. Participants will be encouraged to offer solutions.

Meeting dates and locations are:

• Thursday, Aug. 7, Pepperell High School, 3 Dragon Dr., Lindale near Rome.

• Tuesday, Aug. 12, Altamaha Technical College, 1777 W. Cherry St., Jesup.

• Wednesday, Aug 20, Georgia Public Safety Training Center Auditorium, Forsyth, Ga.

Written comments will also be accepted through the following methods: by email at www.georgiawildlife.com (select “Contact Us” and “Send us an Email”), by fax to 706-557-3030 or mail comments to: License Changes, Georgia DNR/Wildlife Resources, 2070 Hwy. 278 SE, Social Circle, Ga. 30025.

In January, the department announced a new real-time system for selling hunting and fishing licensed through the internet that caused reactions from sportsmen and long-time license agents. Since that time the DNR has worked with Central Bank, the system manager, to amend the contract to include additional sales methods. The new Electronic Georgia Licensing (EGAL) system, expected to be available January 1 of next year, will now allow current license agents statewide the opportunity to continue selling hunting and fishing licenses.

“The newly revised contract provides the opportunity to keep current hunting and fishing license agents, making it easier for Georgia sportsmen,” said Dan Forster, division director. “Georgia’s hunters and anglers will be able to purchase their licenses on-line, by phone and at many of the same local places where they did before.”

For more information about these public meetings, visit the Georgia Department of Natural resources, Wildlife Resources Division website at www.georgiawildlife.com, or call 770-918-6416.
