In 1995, Clarks Bridge park, located on the north end of Lake Lanier, was selected as the Rowing/Canoe/Kayak venue for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Following the Olympics, community leaders and volunteers continued the Olympic legacy, pushing for site improvements and continuing to host local, regional, national and world class events.
Today, the LLOV is the only '96 Olympic venue that is still used for its original purpose. The LLOV serves area youth and adults alike with Rowing/Canoe/Kayak programs. Brenau University Crew, Riverside Military Academy and Chestatee Middle School canoe/kayak club are among the many community clubs that use the facility.
Both the
Lake Lanier Rowing Club (LLRC) and the
Lake Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club (LCKC) reside in and maintain the boat house and facilities. The City of Gainesville and Hall County take turns overseeing the venue.
The LLOV seats about 2,000 with parking capacity of approx. 400 cars. The boathouse and tower are available to rent for meetings and special occasions.
