All year long, colorful sailboats
make their way up and down Lake Lanier from
below Browns Bridge south to Buford Dam. Some
are cruisers, some are racers; some are just
learning to sail through the lakes three
sailing schools.Lanier
has one of the most active inland sailing
communities in the Southeast. More than 60 boats
participate in the spring/summer/fall Wednesday
night racing series, sponsored by Atlanta Inland
Sailing Club.
Five clubs on the lake offer
sailing and social events.
AISC Atlanta Inland
Sailing Club
Hosts the Dogwood Regatta in April and several
series throughout the year, including the
Wednesday night 20-race series.
BFSC Barefoot Sailing Club
Hosts the Barefoot Open in October and
several other Series throughout the year.
LLSC Lake Lanier Sailing Club
Hosts the Reggae Regatta in June, the
PHRF Championships in September and the
Halloween Regatta in October.
SSC Southern Sailing Club
Hosts the Special Olympics Regatta in
September and several other series throughout
the year.
UYC University Yacht Club
Hosts the Hot Ruddered Bum Regatta.
Most of the races listed on this schedule are
open to all sailors with auxiliary boats. Rating
certificates are required and information about
obtaining them is located at
www.saillanier.com.
Each regatta will have a Notice of Race posted
on the website of the hosting club with complete
details about how to participate, generally
three to four weeks in advance of the event.
