Boats, cars to show off at Shine Showdown

By Jane Harrison
Glistening boats, dazzling cars, and tricked out trucks will grace the water and line up on the pavement at Lake Lanier Olympic Park 4-9 p.m. Aug. 22 in the first “Shine Showdown” at the former Olympic site. Organized by Gainesville native AJ Zurzolo, the car and boat show is the newest cultural expansion of the site originally developed for Olympic paddling and rowing.
Zurzolo, owner of North Atlanta Custom Detailing in Gainesville, chose LLOP for the third annual Shine Showdown to exhibit what the business can deliver to the boating community, which makes up about half his work. “The venue is a signature site for Gainesville,” he said, and a perfect fit for a fun day by the lake with customized boats, cars, trucks, children’s activities, music, public safety vehicle displays, food trucks and beverages. “There’s a lot of room for everybody,” he said, at the lakeside park with a grandstand, plaza, boat dock, and ample parking.
Zurzolo expects a large turnout of boaters and car enthusiasts to enter the show that spotlights everything from classic to exotic cars, trucks, and boats. “Anything you can think of that you’d like to put on display, we’ll have an award and a class for it, he said.
He described the event as a showcase of what custom detailers can do. Customizing with high tech products and finishes protects the investments boaters and auto aficionados pour into their vehicles, he said. Proper maintenance and washing methods ensure the luster lasts.
Zurzolo sees high demands from boaters looking to customize and detail their vessels. “Anything from ski boats to houseboats, we’re able to service,” he said, including audio upgrades, shining up dull hulls, and color-coding paint jobs.
Proceeds from the event benefit Caleb’s Cause, a non-profit organization that helps families in need and focuses on assisting with medical expenses.
Shine Showdown admission is free. Vendors and vehicles register for a fee. Info or to register:
