Food Network picks Pig Tales for one of ‘Best Lakeside Dining’ experiences in US

By Pamela A. Keene

In early October, the Food Network came a-callin’ to Northeast Georgia. The popular channel visited Dale and Jessica Ozaki, owners of Pig Tales at Aqualand Marina, to tape a segment for the program’s “Best Lakeside Dining.” The episode will most likely air in 2018 and will feature more than a half-dozen waterside eateries around the country.

“They reached out to us and we were glad to work with them,” Ozaki said. “It was all pretty low key, but they interviewed customers and filmed us prepping and creating some of our more popular dishes.”

Ozaki said that the show will highlight the restaurant’s Brisket Philly and the Pig Tale’s Signature Burger. The Brisket Philly is made with certified angus beef brisket with melted provolone, sautéed onions and green peppers on a banh mi roll; the Pig Tales Signature Burger is topped with smoked pulled pork, pepper encrusted bacon, creamy super slaw and fried onion straw.

The Food Network brought a crew of 10 people, including four cameras. The filming was done on a Saturday and Sunday, with kitchen shots taken before opening on Sunday. Dale did the cooking and both he and Jessica were interviewed.

“It was fast-paced when they were shooting and they filmed everything several times with different lighting and camera angles,” he said. “They were a great crew to work with, plus they got some time to see Lake Lanier and its beautiful scenery and talk with customers.

Pig Tales is celebrating its third year at Aqualand. Its sister restaurant, Fish Tales, has been open at Hideaway Bay Marina for eight years. Pig Tales will be open Friday through Sunday at least until the first weekend in November. Fish Tales will close for the season around Thanksgiving and will reopen around Valentine’s Day.
