Lanier businesses create razzle-dazzle at the Atlanta Boat Show

By Pamela A. Keene

Prepared to be wowed. Two local businesses are putting on the glitz for this year’s Atlanta Boat Show. With adjoining booth spaces, Overboard Designs and AVC Marine have created a fully decked-out 25-foot Malibu LSV wakeboard boat to showcase the latest trends, technology and designs in marine upholstery, furnishings, electronics, lights and sound.

“Singleton Marine has graciously entrusted us to completely customize a brand-new 2020 Malibu 25 LSV wakeboard boat for this year’s boat show,” said Cibele Aisquith, owner of Overboard Designs. “We’ve completely removed the interior and have combined all the bells and whistles to showcase our capabilities at Overboard Designs and those of Chris Shakespeare’s company, AVC Marine. The result is a first for this market, something people here have never seen before in the realm of customization and electronics.”

The two Buford-based companies put their resources together for their boat show partnership and began work several months ago. They will be in adjoining booths No. D50 and D52. In addition to the Malibu, four other vessels will be on display in the booths, to showcase a variety of products.

“AVC and Overboard Designs have complementary offerings and there’s a real synergy between what our shops and employees do for our customers,” Shakespeare said. “Our specialty is marine electronics and accessories. We’ve had a great time working together to create this one-of-a-kind Malibu for the boat show.”

The Malibu has a new trendy color scheme of mochas, grays and silvers stitched with red. Custom lighting inside and out, plus top-of-the-line stereo equipment and electronics, create a showcase boat. “This boat can be the envy of everyone on the lake because it is so upscale and trend-setting,” Aisquith said.

“And when you’re cruising down the lake, it will be a boat that commands attention,” Shakespeare said. “To say it has a lot of ‘wow’ is really an understatement.”

AVC Marine was founded in 2004 and has grown to 10 employees who work with inland and coastal customers on Lake Lanier and across the Southeast. The company partners with boat dealers to create custom packages and installation services.

“We do our own manufacturing and production here on site, working with clients to take ideas through to execution,” he said. “We’re also up on all the latest in marine electronics to keep our customers updated.”

Aisquith founded Overboard Designs in 2005, first in Cumming then moving to Buford in 2016 to a brand-new building with about 5,000-square-feet of showroom and shop space. She recently expanded to 12,500 square feet and has 18 employees.

Overboard Designs works with individuals and manufacturers to create innovative designs. “Earlier this year we customized a boat for a client in Florida and when the manufacturer saw our work, they hired me to consult with them to revamp the look of their brand for 2020,” Aisquith said. “I continue to be very hands-on with every project and every client to assure the best quality and a design that reflects the best for our customers.”
