Lanier Islands study nears completion

By Pamela A. Keene
The study commissioned by the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority is nearing completion.

Last summer, CBRE was chosen by the LLIDA board, the state agency that oversees management of Lake Lanier Islands on behalf of the state, to conduct the study that includes several components related to further development of the property, including a hotel and conference center. Research began on August 1, 2018.
“We expect the draft report from CBRE in the next week or so,” said Bill Donohue, executive director of LLIDA in early November. “Once it is received, the board and our operations partner, Lanier Islands, will review the draft.”
The study will cover market feasibility, concept site plans, construction pricing, financial models and economic impact. A separate component will examine the impact of a proposed hotel and Legacy Lodge.
“The work has come a long way,” Donohue said. “From the progress reports, ideas and concepts we’ve seen, their research has been excellent. We’ll take a couple of weeks to digest the report and have conversations about it.”
Donohue said he anticipates that the board may make decisions as early as its December 14 meeting.
