North Gwinnett Kiwanis Club hosts golf event at Islands

By Pamela A. Keene

The North Gwinnett Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual Fall Golf Classic at Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course on Tuesday, September 17. The tournament benefits students at area high schools who receive scholarships from the club.

“We had an excellent turnout last year and hope to do so again,” said Cal Andrews, chair of this  year’s event. “The students are always so appreciative of the scholarships and the Fall Classic is a good way to enjoy a round of golf while helping local students.”

The format is four-man scramble with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Registration and the practice range open at 8 a.m.

Registration for the event is $560 per foursome until September 7; after that date, registration, if available, is $600 per foursome. Individual registration is $150 per player. It includes range balls, green fees, cart, breakfast and lunch, soft drinks, on-course contest entries and a golfer’s gift. The 19th Hole includes a keg, soft drinks and hors oeuvres.

Prizes will be given for the two low-gross teams, as well as individual prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive. The event concludes with an awards banquet, raffle and silent auction. Sponsorships are still available by contacting Andrews at 678 472-7166.

“Legacy Golf Course is a beautiful place to play,” Andrews said. “This challenging lakeside course is the perfect setting for our event and for the camaraderie between our club members, sponsors and others who play.”
