Pirates of Lanier Poker Run July 17-20

By Pamela A. Keene

Three non-stop days of fun on the water will benefit two Georgia children’s charities – Camp Sunshine and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County – as the 6th Annual Pirates of Lanier Poker Run returns to Lake Lanier on the weekend of July 17-20. And the grand prize winner with the best poker hand will walk away with a $5,000 cash prize.

Lanier Partners, organizers of the nation’s largest charity poker run, have brought back popular activities and added new events to the mix to make this year’s Pirates of Lanier Poker Run the best ever.

“Our goal this year is to raise $400,000 for our children’s charities,” said Lanier Partners President John Woodruff. “With the number of boats already signed up and so many loyal sponsors, we are looking forward to an excellent event.”

This year, there will be seven card stops: Holiday Marina, Port Royale Marina, Gainesville Marina, Hideaway Bay Marina, Aqualand Marina, Habersham Pointe and Lazy Days Marina. Participants only need five cards to compete. Registration is $200 for two poker hands, two T-shirts, an event DVD and two people on the same boat. Super Deluxe registration is $300 for four poker hands, four T-shirts, an event DVD and four people on the same boat. There is no charge for additional crew; however, extra poker hands may be purchased for $50 each, no limit.

New this year, the group is presenting a Treasure Hunt, a chance for land-lubbers to participate for a $5,000 cash bounty, winner take all. Treasure maps may be purchased online for $200 each. Visit at least five locations – there are 11 total – to make up your best five-card poker hand. Visit the website for complete rules at www.piratesoflanier.com.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there’s a special lunch stop at Fish Tales Lakeside Grille at Hideaway Bay. Tickets for the buffet-style event are $15 per person and may be purchased on site. Fish Tales’ front lawn will feature live entertainment.
