Register now for the 3rd annual Parade of Boats

By Pamela A. Keene
It’s never to early to start thinking about Christmas. And it’s already time to register for the Christmas Parade of Boats, scheduled for Saturday, December 8.
“We’ve added a new category this year – sailboats – and we’re encouraging people to register early,” said Barkley Geib, president of Lanier Partners, which organizes the Christmas fund-raiser every year. “It’s going to be another great year and we’re already getting excited about the parade.”
This year there will be three categories – cruisers/powerboats, with a $75 per boat registration fee; sailboats, with a $100 per boat registration fee; and houseboats, with a $125 registration fee. Registration includes a courtesy slip, side space or mooring at Margaritaville for the evening, two long-sleeve souvenir T-shirts and a tour of Magical Nights of Lights.
“Again, we’re encouraging people at each marina to participate,” Geib said. “We will choose first-, second-, and third-place winners for the best-decorated boat in each category from each marina, and the first-place fleet winners from each marina will compete for the grand prize at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands.”
Boats will marshal at designated points near each marina and proceed down the lake to Landshark Landing at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands. Participants from private docks can join in the marshaling area of the marina of their choice.
The event raises money for children’s charities, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier, Toys for Tots and Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes.
Sponsorships for the event are available and include – depending on the level – boat parade entries, raffle tickets plus recognition in the Captain’s Goodie box, brochures and event program.
