Win twin Waverunners at 11th annual Poker Run

By Pamela A. Keene
This year’s Pirates of Lanier Poker Run not only raises money for children’s charities, it provides a fun day on Lake Lanier for locals and out-of-towners alike. And this year, there’s a bonus. Organizers are offering a chance to win a pair of Yamaha GP1800 Waverunners with a tandem trailer. The jet skis prize was made possible by Park Marine.
“Registrations are ahead of last year and we’re getting excited about this year’s event,” said Barkley Geib, president of Lanier Partners of North Georgia, which produces the event. “The jet skis will be touring around the lake for the next few weeks, and people can buy their tickets at these locations.”
As in years past, four area children’s charities will be the beneficiaries – Camp Sunshine, Camp Twin Lakes, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier, and Edmondson-Telford Center for Children.
The three-day event includes the Thursday night Meet and Greet party at Lanier Islands Harbor Pavilion. Friday’s Cheeseburger on Paradise Beach takes place from noon to 3 p.m., hosted by Margaritaville at Lanier Islands. The Captains Safety Meeting will be followed by silent and live auctions at the Harbor Pavilion Tent. Redneck Blonde band will provide entertainment.
Saturday’s Poker Run begins at 9 a.m. with multiple card stops. “With no central start, this is a chance to tour around the lake at your own pace,” Geib said. “We encourage people to decorate their boats and for their crews to dress up in appropriate pirate attire, because we’ll be offering prizes.”
Starting at 5 p.m., the Poker Run Casino will be open at Sunset Cove’s LandShark Landing. Winning hands will be awarded prizes, followed by fireworks over the lake.
